Book Week Scotland is almost upon us, with many exciting events across Edinburgh and beyond.

Pentlands Book Festival is getting an early start with a couple of almost sell-outs from Alan Bissett (whose Moira Monologues was a huge hit at this year’s Fringe) and Chris Sanguine (on the mathematical properties of pizza!?!), but still has a lot of tickets left for other events ranging from Robert Burns through cookery and ghosts to teddy bears, Dads Rock and “Tweet your Street”.

A talk on Sir Walter Scott and the songs he collected pairs food for the mind with fairtrade wines and a tune or two from students at the Conservatoire of Scotland; another takes us to Register House, and yet another on Jean Armour takes place in the local funeral parlour.

Unfortunately you’re too late to book for the sell-out talk from Chris Brookmyre, but there are many other events to welcome you  – and they are all free!

From the Currie Beer and Curry Festival in summer to last month’s Balerno Music Festival to this festival spread across Colinton, Juniper Green and Currie, there’s a lot goes on in this deceptively demure corner of Edinburgh.
