Neil Lennon

Hibs’ Head Coach Neil Lennon hailed the performance of his players as ‘superb’ during yesterday’s emphatic 4-0 win over Queen of the South at Easter Road.

The scoreline did not accurately reflect the difference between the team as Hibs created enough chances to win ten games against a side who, up until recently looked to be one of the main challengers for promotion.

Lennon replaced Grant Holt with Brian Graham up front and his decision was vindicated in the 7th minute when the former Ross County striker opened the scoring.

John McGinn was credited with the second although his shot took a big deflection en route,

Skipper David Gray added a third before Martin Boyle, who could easily have scored five himself wrapped things up.

After the game, a delighted Neil Lennon said:“In my time as a manager at any club, that’s one of the best performances I’ve seen from a team against any opposition.

“It could have been double the score comfortably. We looked powerful, intense, hungry – the quality of the football and the chances we created was superb.

” We never took our foot off the pedal. Some of our attacking play was outstanding. We looked a very very good side today.

” I think Martin Boyle could have had four before half-time. It was a wee test of his character. He could have sat in the dressing room at half time and felt sorry for himself but he came out and scored a great goal.”

Lennon revealed this week that Scotland international John McGinn is waiting on an operation and has been playing whilst not 100% fit however the Head Coach insists that the timing will be up to the player.

Despite his injury however, McGinn put in yet another excellent performance in Hibs midfield alongside Fraser Fyvie and Andrew Shinnie.

He was replaced by Dylan McGeouch who could be the man to replace him whist he is missing and both Marvin Bartley and Scott Martin are also available for selection.

Lennon continued:  “If he’s not 100 per cent fit, I would hate to see him when he is as he was magnificent.

“He came through it and I don’t think there is any added damage to what he has.

“He was brilliant, a real driving force.

“It will be up to John when he goes for it.

“He’ll probably want to have it done ASAP so he doesn’t miss many games going into the New Year but from our point of view we want him for Dundee United in a fortnight.

“If he keeps playing like that it could be May”
