Acorn Stairlifts have installed two free stairlifts for patients supported by Marie Curie Hospice Edinburgh. This donation has been welcomed by the charity which supports people living with a terminal illness by giving them the choice of being cared for at home.

The Munro family, based in Edinburgh, benefited from one of the donations which enabled Mr Munro to return to the family home.

Son Scott Munro said: ā€œThe stairlift has been absolutely fantastic. My dad had been spending full days either upstairs or downstairs. With the help of Acornā€™s stairlift, he now has the freedom of choosing where he wants to be ā€“ whether itā€™s watching TV with the family or going back upstairs to bed. The stairlift simply makes life easier at a difficult time and importantly, means dad can be cared for at home. Itā€™s just been brilliant.ā€

Acorn Stairlifts, with a factory based in nearby Haddington, has been manufacturing and installing stairlifts for more than 20 years and employs over 800 people in the UK. It has recently been named International Business of the Year at the UK Private Business Awards.

Acorn Company Secretary Dave Belmont said: “We are delighted to work with Marie Curie as a charity partner and are delighted we can make a difference in Edinburgh by giving people the freedom and flexibility to return home. Every eight minutes, someone in the world benefits from installing an Acorn Stairlift and with such vital, life enhancing work already undertaken by this incredible charity, we are looking forward to supporting them and families they support even further through the free installation of our stairlifts.ā€

Nicky Read, Head of Corporate Partnerships, Marie Curie said: ā€œWe are delighted that AcornĀ Stairlifts has chosen to support Marie Curie by providing free stairlifts to families supported by our Edinburgh hospice. This unique initiative will make all the difference to the people we support who are living with a terminal illness and their families.ā€
