Police officers investigating a report of a rape near a bus stop on Lothian Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning have concluded that no crime was committed.

Detective Chief Inspector Alwyn Bell said: “Officers have carried out extensive enquiries and we are satisfied that no offence has occurred. I would like to thank the public for their assistance this week.

“I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to come forward and speak to police.

“Dedicated officers will investigate all reports thoroughly and sensitively, with specialist support a priority.”
