Scotland’s men continued their World League campaign with a sensational 11-0 win over Slovakia at the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow. A hat-trick for Alan Forsyth, two goals each from Kenny Bain and Hamish Imrie, plus strikes by Russell Anderson, Dan Coultas (Edin. Uni.), Willie Marshall and Cameron Fraser (Grange) made up the incredible scoring rout.

This means that the Scots have now scored an impressive 16 goals with no reply from their first two games in World League 1 in Glasgow.

A ‘cricket score’ had been predicted before the match, but Slovakia looked to be a competent side from the off, with Kenny Bain’s sixth minute score being the only early blot on their defence.

Bain’s exquisite lob over the keeper got the Scots off to that great start, puting the hosts one up, followed by strikes from Russell Anderson on 20 minutes and Bain’s second – an opportunity pounced on following a defender’s slip in the area – making the half time score 3-0.

However, in the second half Scotland were electrifying. In a five minute spell shortly after the restart the Scots hammered in three goals – two from Hamish Imrie and one from Alan Forsyth.

Edinburgh Uni’s, Coultas scored his obligatory penalty corner to make it 6-0 before Alan Forsyth bagged his second of the match. Willie Marshall then scored his first goal of the tournament from a penalty corner before two goals in the last minute from Grange’s Cameron Fraser and Alan Forsyth – completing his hat trick – finished the scoring in spectacular fashion.

The result keeps Scotland at the top of the table in Glasgow and now the team has a couple of days rest before they face Portugal on Saturday at the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow.

Speaking of Portugal, they had played Scotland’s only other opponents so far, Switzerland, earlier in the day. That match finished 4-1 to the dominant Swiss side, with Portugal going 3-0 down in the first 20 minutes. They pulled one back in the second half, and put a fair bit of pressure on the opposition defence, but a fourth from Switzerland sealed the win with just over 10 minutes remaining.
