Glengoyne Room 4

The still new member of the Contini family, the Contini Cannonball now feels a bit more established by the introduction of the whisky bar. This is on the first floor in the space where the café (or was it the ice-cream emporium?) was. Guests at the official launch party this evening were divided on where everything used to be, but as one in the view that this is a lovely space which has been created.

One thing is for sure this is where the Glengoyne is now. The whisky  distillery owned by Ian Macleod Distillers is now in a formal partnership with Victor and Carina Contini in the new bar.

There are 120 malt whiskies here with the entire Glengoyne and Tamdhu collections on offer. With its contemporary menu with some light bites, this will be the go to place for lunch or a light bite at the very top of the Royal Mile.

The Glengoyne Room on the ground floor will be home to private whisky tastings, dinners and corporate events for up to 40 people.

The Loch Lomond based distillery is the inspiration for some of the redesign in the bar scoped by architect Kerr Blyth of KBAD, and the interior envisaged by interior designers Ampersand. Thomas Johnson of Glasgow were the principal contractor.

Neil Boyd, Commercial Director for Malts for Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Victor and Carina to launch Cannonball Bar and The Glengoyne Room. The location of Cannonball House is so unique spot and couldn’t offer a more authentic Edinburgh experience.

“Our collaboration with Contini is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Scotland’s national drink and we’re looking forward to welcoming the hundreds of thousands of visitors to the capital with a dram of Glengoyne for fans of a Highland whisky, or Tamdhu for Speysiders.”

Carina Contini said: “At Contini we are all about family and offering our customers a fantastic eating and drinking experience. We’re so happy to be collaborating with Glengoyne, who share our ethos and passion.

“In addition to the superb Glengoyne and Tamdhu collections, we offer a vast selection of whiskies from all over Scotland. So no matter your preference, you’re bound to find the dram of your dreams at Cannonball Bar.”
