The owner of this mews style property at the West End is the first to admit that he lives in a stable. But a very nice stable it is!

This property is one of a development of  buildings which were formerly home to the horses and carriages used by the owners of the larger houses in Atholl Crescent. Now it is a modern house with a comforting wood burning stove in the living area, and a working fireplace in the bedroom to keep you cosy.

Mr Johnston explained what made him buy the property: “We bought it as we just loved it, and we like the space for entertaining our friends.”

The property would be a perfect base for professionals working in the capital or for use as a holiday letting opportunity.

The flat is on the first floor above a large four car garage which is being offered for sale separately. The living area along with kitchen and dining areas form a large open plan space, and while there is one bedroom there is also a large loft area, useful as a guest space or TV area. The loft has restricted head height, but the Johnstons have found this useful for occasional guests.

What they really liked about the property is its proximity to the shops at the West End, and excellent transport links with Shandwick Place so close by.

Mr Johnston explained that they had downsized from a 3 bedroom house elsewhere in the city for a very good reason: “The hills got to us! We really wanted to move somewhere more central and this house could not be in a better location for shopping. It is now a gentle stroll to the shops for us. We also wanted somewhere that was easier to manage, but there is a lot of space here for entertaining and we love that about it. We have found however that we miss our garden so that is why we now want to move.”

There is also a possibility of converting the garage to another flat. Mr Johnston said: “One of the companies in the lane who had several garages have converted that to a single house, so if the new owner got planning permission the garage could be turned into another house.”
