Edinburgh charity extends its services

The council’s Health Social Care & Housing Committee will meet later under the convenership of Councillor Ricky Henderson. One of the key consultations at present is that on the strategy for the Integrated Joint Board linking health and social care together.  The council is therefore extending certain contracts for six months only until the end of the consultation period at the end of October and the approval of a strategy which is expected later this year.

The main advantage of integrated working will be financial savings to the council and the NHS, but since the council has effectively overspent on its budget in these areas, it is crucial that further savings are made wherever possible. Grants payable to third parties for this current financial year have been reduced by 3.3% which amounts to £1.5m, and plans are being made to reduce larger grants over £10,000 in the next two years by 10%.

The committee admits in its papers to be considered this morning that some of these reductions will have ‘significant implications’ for some of the organisations who usually get the grants paid to them. They undertake to try and reduce the impact by providing as much advance notice as possible.

The meeting can be viewed on the council’s webcast service from 10am.
