Louise Giblin MA, Member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors, who has made head and body casts of many sports stars and media figures including Kriss Akabusi MBE, Dame Kelly Holmes, Sally Gunnell OBE, Duncan Goodhew, Eddie The Eagle Edwards and Michael Portillo, is looking for two Scottish war veterans to have their hands cast for posterity at Urbane Art Gallery Edinburgh.

Louise is currently working on ‘Lest We Forget’, comprising 20-30 relief sculptures and part bodies cast from current and retired members of the British Military who each served in different post-WWI wars, for completion in 2018. These include Team GB Paralympic skier John Kirk MBE and Paralympian Cycling medal winner Jon-Allan Butterworth.
The artist, sister of a retired RAMC Officer, and whose family originated in Edinburgh and Glasgow will be exhibiting at Urbane Gallery, Jeffrey St, during the Edinburgh Festival and is now looking for two veterans to hand cast at the gallery on Saturday August 15th.
Louise is specifically hoping to meet volunteers who served in earlier conflicts: ‘I have been lucky in finding a number of men and women who served in WWII and from the Falklands period onwards but would like to work with those involved in the any of the 27 Operations 1945-67. If anyone would like to take part they can reach me via email: info@louisegiblin.co.uk’
Louise’s work usually focuses on what people choose to convey about themselves; for the ’Lest We Forget’ bronzes her models focused on Military identity or their memories of service. Each plaque is accompanied by information regarding the model, their choice of design and a related quote given by the model.
