Police Scotland

Police Scotland has today announced new appointments for two of its senior officers.

Assistant Chief Constable Mike McCormick, formerly of Local Policing East, will now lead on three service wide divisions: Contact, Command and Control, Custody and Criminal Justice. Kate Thomson, formerly Local Police Commander in Dumfries and Galloway is now temporary ACC for Local Policing East.

ACC McCormick said:“I am delighted that my focus going forward will be concentrated on these three vital aspects of service delivery for Police Scotland.

“I will continue to lead on modernising the delivery of the Contact, Command and Control division to provide a more efficient and effective service to local communities.  Enhancing our approach to managing people who are in police custody and optimising how we deliver that service across Scotland is a key priority for Police Scotland and I will support colleagues in driving towards that aim. Aligned to this is modernising and reforming how we discharge our responsibilities in relation to Criminal Justice services, ranging from enforcing court warrants to the reporting of cases to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Local policing is the core of service delivery for Police Scotland and I have been privileged to lead this in the East of the country for the past 18 months and know that I am passing this role into capable hands with the appointment of ACC Thomson.”

ACC Thomson said: “I am delighted to be taking up this new post, overseeing local policing in the East of the country. Keeping our communities safe is a priority for Police Scotland. I will work closely with the four Divisional Commanders and their teams across the East area to ensure we are visible and actively engage across all our communities.

“I recognise that to resolve local issues and concerns we rely on the assistance and support from the public, our partners and colleagues across the service.  I hope to build on the progress made so far and will ensure that we continue to listen to and keep our communities updated so we can all work together to make the East an even safer place in which to live, work and visit.”
