Police Scotland is advising motorists to expect significant traffic delays on the Edinburgh City By-Pass and exit routes from the city due to a road traffic accident involving a single vehicle.

The accident happened shortly before 4pm on the Westbound carriageway of the M8 between Junctions 2 and 3. As a result, traffic heading to the M8 from the Hermiston Gait junction is likely to be congested for some time, as diversions are put in place.

Police warned that the M8 was likely to be closed for some time and advised drivers to take an alternative route where possible. Traffic heading westbound can come off the M8 at Junction 2 and take the slip road to the M9, joining the A89 at the Newbridge Roundabout towards Livingston, where it can then re-join the M8 at Junction 3.
