One of the Lothians’ best-loved historic attractions is set to re-open on 1 April after being closed for the winter months.
Crichton Castle, near Pathhead in Midlothian closes over the winter period; however it will welcome visitors once again when it re-opens on 1 April.
Built as the lordly residence of the Crichtons and later home to the earls of Bothwell, the castle is notable for its stunning 16th century courtyard facade.
Susan Loch, Head of Visitor Operations and Community Engagement at Historic Scotland, which runs the site said; “Staff are getting ready to welcome visitors from around the world to the site once again. Spring is a lovely time of year to visit one of our properties, and Crichton Castle is just one of a number of Historic Scotland sites around the country – including Cairnpapple Hill, Inchcolm Abbey and Seton Collegiate Church in the Lothians – which closes over winter before re-opening to the public in time for the Easter weekend.
“This year we’ve got lots of exciting things planned for visitors across our properties, from costumed performances to events to mark the Year of Homecoming 2014.”
