The Edinburgh RSL (Registered Social Housing) Tenants’ Group will be holding an event about the impact of Welfare Reform on housing association tenants in Edinburgh on Monday 24 February 2014.

Matt Wheatley Convenor of the Registered Social Landlord Group sub group of Edinburgh Tenants Federation said:-“I hope that the Welfare Reform Event 2014 will both inform people of the coming changes to Welfare Benefits and help stimulate interest and involvement in Registered Social Landlords (RSL) Group.”

To ensure this, guest speakers such as Sandra Cumming with Harry Woodward from Dunedin Canmore Group Housing Association and Jeremy Hewer from Scottish Federation of Housing Associations will be giving their input concerning the impact of Welfare Reform on housing associations and tenants. The short presentations will be followed by informal session of generating questions and concluded with Question and Answer time, to ensure that everyone’s queries are dealt with.

Matt Wheatley explains that “the ideal outcome would be that participants feel informed and empowered in relation to the changes and that the RSL group gains wider participation”.

About the RSL
The RSL Tenants’ Group was reformed in September 2012, and has attracted over a hundred tenants from nine different landlords in its meetings since then. The Group is aiming to increase the opportunities for partnership working with RSL tenants, by sharing the skills and capacity of housing association tenants in the city and enabling tenants of RSLs to work together with landlords to improve services and develop greater awareness of tenant participation in the city.
