Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following the assault and robbery of a man early this morning.

The man was walking to his work around 5.30am on Easter Road, and was opposite B&Q when he was assaulted and robbed of his money by another man, who made off down Easter Road towards Leith Links.

Detective Constable Gavin Watson of Police Scotland, who is leading the enquiry, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked robbery carried out on a man who was simply walking to his work. He did not see who hit him, and has been unable to provide any description of the attacker, who left him requiring hospital treatment.

“I am keen to speak to a lady who came to the victim’s aid, and would appeal for anyone who was in the Easter Road area between 5.30am and 6am this morning and saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestioppers on 0800 555 111.”

  1. This is the second assault on easter road in one week. Another occurred at 6.30 last thursday 23rd , a young woman was assaulted and robbed of her bag outside her flat on easter road.

The police have just posted an A4 letter on the flat door informing everyone in the stair of the incident 5 days later? They made no effort to ask people in the stair about the incident on the night it happened. Feel let down with the way police force have dealt with this and then to hear of another similar assault only 4 days later .

They all took place within 300 metres of each other – i think a patrol is needed for easter road around people going/coming from work these assault are targeting working people.
