Former Hibs and Scotland striker Garry O’Connor has been handed the chance to resurrect his career at Morton.

The 30 year old striker who has been training with Morton hasn’t played for over a year after spending a short spell with Bury.

The Greenock side currently sit bottom of the Scottish Championship and new manager Kenny Shiels, who was strongly linked with the Hibs manager’s post hopes that he can regain the form which saw him score 16 goals after returning to Easter Road in 2011.

After helping the club to the Scottish Cup Final, he moved to Russian club Tom Tomsk but failed to settle.

He was given his debut from the bench as a 17 year old by Alex McLeish  against Dundee in April 2001 before becoming a regular under Franck Sauzee and Bobby Williamson the following season.

His performances earned a Scotland cap and a subsequent £1.5m move to Lokomotiv Moscow where he scored the winning goal in the Russian Cup Final before moving to play for Birmingham City in the English Premier League.

In two spells at Easter Road, he played 207 times, scoring 75 goals.
