Flooding in Craiglockhart – Gas leak on Easter Road – Edinburgh’s Christmas – Stockbridge Library – Rat Race today

Scottish Water put out this update yesterday evening:-

“Engineers are continuing to carry out the repair of a 16 inch water main at the city’s Colinton Road. Customers may experience low water pressure during the tea time draw but this will return to normal. Flood water at the site of this mornings’ burst has been removed and all earlier road closures lifted. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.”

This followed considerable flooding from the early hours of Saturday morning after a water main burst on Colinton Road.

Area Commander of Scottish Fire and Rescue, John Dickie, had the best photos of the floodwater:-

Local resident Noel Chidwick made this video when his electricity and internet came back on…..

InfEdin_MAP_148x210-1Underbelly and Unique Events, on behalf of The City of Edinburgh Council, this week released the first artist’s impression of Edinburgh’s Christmas 2013.

Christmas in Edinburgh has been seriously re-imagined as an event for families, children, young people, and for all of Edinburgh. Whilst retaining many of the traditionally popular attractions, they have relocated some, expanded others and introduced new attractions that will delight the residents and visitors of this historic city. Christmas in Edinburgh will be a metropolitan festival to rival the celebrations of other world cities and an event that the capital city of Scotland will be proud of.

Since arriving in the city 14 years ago, The Big Wheel quickly became an iconic addition to the Edinburgh skyline. This year they are delighted to unveil a brand new Big Wheel to the capital. Standing at over 42 metres high, this new wheel will provide unrivalled views of Edinburgh Castle, the Old and New Towns and, weather permitting, Fife, all from the comfort of one of the 36 fully enclosed pods, each comfortably sitting 6 people. To make this an even more memorable experience, they have installed a commentary that will point out many historical landmarks. After 14 years of nestling alongside the Scott Monument, the Big Wheel is rotated by 90 degrees, and will now sit between the cafe and the statue of Provost Black, providing the finest views of our historic city.

Councillor Steve Cardownie, Edinburgh’s Festivals & Events Champion, said:- “Underbelly promised that they would deliver something fresh and exciting for Edinburgh’s Christmas, whilst remaining true to the successes of years gone by. Judging by the programme, unveiled in such style last month, and these artist’s impressions, they have done just that, proving that once again the capital is the place to be at Christmas time.”

Charlie Wood, Director of Underbelly, said:- “The Big Wheel has always been a central feature of Edinburgh’s Christmas festivities and this year we are thrilled to be introducing a brand new Big Wheel, in a new location, with even more comfortable enclosed pods which will make this the most unforgettable

Big Wheel experience that Edinburgh has ever seen.”
