Thirty East of Scotland trekkers, along with one from just across the border in Berwick-on-Tweed, will be heading off from Edinburgh Airport to Tanzania next week and then they are going to climb Mt Kilimanjaro to raise funds for local Edinburgh charity It’s Good 2 Give.

The trek starts properly on Saturday 5 October 2013 and they should be arriving at the summit of the world’s tallest freestanding mountain (5895m), Kilimanjaro, early morning on the 9th.

The group includes four parents of young cancer patients, one who is still in treatment, and there are also two people on the trek who are related to young people who died from cancer.

Also on the trek is charity co-founder, Lynne McNicoll. Lynne describes herself as the granny of the group, as she is the oldest at age 56. Lynne is a finalist in the Fundraiser of the Year category in the Big Hearted Scot Awards 2013.

Two local businesses are involved in the trek – Louise Caithness, Director of Zest Skin care is one of the trekkers along with her sister Lindsay. It’s Good 2 Give is charity of the year at Craigie’s Farm Shop and Cafe in Dalmeny, and Anne Baird, manager of the café is trekking with her sister Catherine Barr.

Collectively the team have raised over £100,000 for It’s Good 2 Give and that total is still rising.

The charity’s Patrons are local radio presenter and actor, Grant Stott, historical author Sara Sheridan and childrens’ author Cathy Cassidy. They are all in awe of the team’s efforts and are looking forward to a phone call from the summit of Kilimanjaro!

The photo shows only half of the team who are going on the trek – but we hope to get more photos from Lynne even from the summit!
