Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following a theft from a property in the south of the city. The incident happened around 5.15pm on Wednesday 26th June at an address in Gilmerton Road.
A 67-year-old man returned home and found a male inside who was in possession of a knife.
Following a brief struggle the victim was able to eject the suspect, who made off towards Moredunvale Road before turning into Moredun Park Gardens where he was lost to sight.
A number of items of jewellery were stolen from the property and anyone who can assist police with their enquiries is asked to come forward.
The suspect is describes as white, around 30-years-old with a large heavy build, pale complexion and dark curly hair. He was wearing dark baggy clothing, white trainers, dark rimmed glasses and was in possession of a black bag.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “This was a terrifying experience for the homeowner, who was robbed of his possessions after finding a male intruder within his home.
“The stolen items are of great sentimental value to the victim and we are conducting local enquiries to identify the individual responsible for this theft.
“Anyone who was in Gilmerton Road on Wednesday evening and saw anything suspicious, or who can help identify the suspect is asked to contact police immediately.
“Similarly, we would also urge anyone with other information relevant to this investigation to get in touch.”
