Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following a high-value theft from council premises in the west of the city.

The incident happened around 3.30am on Friday 10 May at the depot on Fords Road. A storage unit within the compound was broken into and an HGV vehicle, containing several items of gardening equipment, was stolen from inside.

Damage was caused to the unit’s door and the entrance gates to the property as the culprits made off, and the vehicle was recovered in the vicinity of Hillwood Farm Newbridge just after 3pm.

Officers are still trying to locate the other stolen items, which were not within the truck when it was recovered. The value of the theft along with the damage caused is around ÂŁ100,000.

Inspector Irene Ralston said: “This incident is likely to have caused quite a disturbance and so we are keen to hear from local residents and members of the public who were in the area in the early hours of Friday morning and remember seeing or hearing anything suspicious.

“Officers are conducting various lines of enquiry within the community to identify those responsible.

“Anyone with information that can help with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
