DROP IN SESSION TO RECRUIT FOSTER CARERS
The latest drive by the City of Edinburgh Council to find new recruits to become foster carers is taking place tomorrow evening (Thursday 18 April) in the Capital.
A special drop in session is taking place between 5pm and 7pm at Waverley Court where people can meet foster carers and social workers for an informal chat about fostering.
The event is taking place ahead of Foster Care fortnight (13 – 26 May 2013) at a time when the number of children needing care in Scotland is at its highest since 1981.
Councillor Paul Godzik, Children, Education and Families Convener, said: “There’s a real shortage of foster carers across Edinburgh and we’re hoping to encourage more people to consider becoming carers for children and young people.
“Fostering is a hugely rewarding and really important job as it benefits some of the most vulnerable children in our society, helping them build a bright and confident future.
“All sorts of different people have the skills and qualities to foster and we hope this drop in session will provide anyone interested with the information they need.”
Thursday’s drop in session is the first of three events taking place over the coming months to highlight the need for more foster carers. The ‘Foster Me Foster Us’ campaign is across the city and includes bus, taxi, billboard and bus shelter advertising as well as local media promotion.
