The new Gaelic primary school which will take the place of the former Bonnington Primary School has been named ‘Bun-sgoil Taobh na Páirce’ or ‘Parkside Primary School’.
Extensive refurbishment work is underway at the school to the tune of £3.53 million in order to prepare it for its new role.
Councillor Paul Godzik, Education, Children and Families Convener said:- “Parkside Primary School will be a very welcome addition to our list of schools and we are already looking forward to it opening its doors next August. I think ‘Parkside’ is a good choice and I’d like to thank all the staff, pupils and teachers involved in the naming of the school.”
A steering group involved in the planning for the new school comprised of teachers, officers and parents has been set up. This group spent time working with pupils of Tollcross Primary Gaelic Unit to come up with a name for the school. This involved considering the location of the school and history of the area.
The school will replace the existing Gaelic Medium Unit (GME) based within Tollcross Primary School which was established in the 1982. The GME unit has steadily seen its roll rise over the years as demand for GME education has grown.
The new school is due to open in August 2013. Registrations for next year’s P1 intake will begin in December when a new Head Teacher will also be appointed.
