College and university information day set for Edinburgh and Lothians

Hundreds of local pupils to find out everything they need to know about life after school

People in Edinburgh and Lothians who want to find out more about college and university should come along to Skills Development Scotland’s (SDS) Higher Education Convention at Edinburgh Napier University, Craiglockhart Campus, on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 August 2012.

It brings together college and university representatives from across the UK under one roof and has been organised in association with UCAS.

More than 50 organisations will provide information and advice to prospective students and their parents. Most Scottish universities, all local colleges as well as many others from other parts of the UK will be on hand with information on courses, accommodation and funding.

Senior pupils from all secondary schools in Edinburgh and Lothians have been invited to the free sessions with parents and adults wanting to learn more about further education are welcome to attend. Sessions will run from 9:30 – 12:15; 13:30 – 16:00 and 16:30 – 18:00 on Tuesday and from 9:30 – 12:00 on Wednesday.

SDS careers advisers will also be on hand to provide impartial, one-on-one, advice and information but even for those who cannot attend on the day, help is still available.

The SDS web service My World of Work, www.myworldofwork.co.uk, is available to offer advice, ranging from information on courses and applications to tips on adapting to life on campus.

Patricia Thomson, SDS area manager, said:

“Making the decision to go to college or university is a major one and the convention provides a great opportunity to speak to the experts and get all the information you need before you make that all important choice. It is obviously a big decision for the whole family so parents are welcome to come along and find out how best they can support their children.”
