Pubs across Edinburgh will this week receive their invitation to join NSPCC Scotland’s brand new fundraising competition, the Great Edinburgh Pub Quiz.

The children’s charity is calling on people across the city to get into teams and take part in the fundraising quiz, which aims to find the brainiest pub in Edinburgh. The event will see pubs across Edinburgh compete against each other in a city-wide pub quiz on 16 October to be named Edinburgh’s Brainiest Pub.

Organisers hope up to 30 pubs will compete for the title, raising £2,500 for the charity’s ChildLine service, which is there 24 hours a day for children and young people in Scotland and across the UK.

Susie Barron, NSPCC Scotland community fundraising manager said: “This is going to be a really fun quiz night for a great cause and we want to see pubs across Edinburgh taking part. The quiz is our way of testing the brain power of some of Edinburgh’s best pubs whilst raising money to help children in Scotland.

“Anyone can join in the Great Edinburgh Pub Quiz. Simply find a participating pub and register your team of four. Entry is £4 per person, with all money raised going to ChildLine Scotland. It costs us around £4 to answer a call to ChildLine, so every quiz entrant will help to make sure we can be there to answer a child’s call for help.”

On 16 October, quizmasters in participating pubs across Edinburgh will hold the same quiz on the same night, with questions prepared by professional quizmaster Dr Paul. Answer sheets will then be submitted to NSPCC Scotland’s fundraising team who will work out the winning pub. Edinburgh’s Brainiest Pub will be announced on 26 October and will receive a special award to display behind their bar.

Susie continued: “If you’re a pub landlord then don’t miss out – get in touch straight away to register your pub and we will send you all the details, including posters to advertise the event. Or if you’re a keen quizzer then get down to your local and ask if they are taking part. Everybody loves a pub quiz and this one will be even more enjoyable, as teams will know they are raising money to help children and young people who need us.”

Pubs can register for the Great Edinburgh Pub Quiz by contacting the NSPCC Scotland fundraising team at scotlandevents@nspcc.org.uk or call 0844 8920212.
