Festival tickets – Olympic torch event in Edinburgh – Edinburgh’s cultural scene – Portobello – Dead body discovered at Balerno 

We took the photo accompanying today’s article at the Festival Programme launch last week. The tickets for the Festival go on general release next Saturday 24 March 2012, and Director Jonathan Mills has been congratulated on the cultural Olympiad which he has set up in the year of the London Olympics.

Details of who will be carrying the Olympic torch in and around Edinburgh on 13 & 14 June are now available online but Edinburgh Castle has been chosen as the venue for the one of the evening celebrations, and details of two of the torch carriers have been unveiled.

Bright Green have published a lengthy and detailed article by Harry Giles which claims that Edinburgh may be “Sleepwalking into a Cultural Disaster”. In the style of exam questions you might care and contrast this account of the Edinburgh arts scene with a piece in yesterday’s The Observer by Tracy McVeigh which states boldy, but displays fairly thin evidence, that Edinburgh “takes pride in a cultural renaissance”.
