The Journal reports that a new rector has been appointed at Edinburgh University after he stood unopposed in the recent election. Peter McColl who is a Green activist and former Vice-President of EUSA will take up his new role on 1 March.

The Daily Record explains that Yang Guang the male panda has been removed from public display as he has colic. Was it something he ate? The Zoo tell us about the pandas eating habits:-“The majority of a pandas diet is bamboo, consisting of a variety of different species. It doesn’t hold a lot of nutritional value though, so they have to eat over 30kg every day. They have huge powerful jaws with large molars, which help them to chew through the thick stems. Despite the water content of bamboo, pandas still need a source of water such as rivers and streams. They will also eat eggs, grasses, meat and vegetables if available. Their main competitors for food are the red panda, bamboo rats, black bears, wild boars, badgers, porcupines, takin, and gorals.”
