Over recent days the workmen have been clearing up a bit in the street next to The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, which will undoubtedly mean these parking spaces will come back into general circulation again. This area has been the contractors’ car park during the renovation works which are due to be completed by the end of November, in time for the official reopening on 1 December 2011.

Edinburgh Airport is to be sold so will the consortium led by city financier Ben Thomson and former tie boss Richard Jeffrey now be able to raise the funds of almost £1bn to buy it? And will it mean the end of cheap flights as STV report is the fear of some travellers?

Granton Community Council has suspended any action until the allegations against its members have been dealt with. The Edinburgh Evening News reports that the claims of wrongdoing relate to finances, and the purchase of computers last year.

A teenager has been charged with vandalism following the destruction of a piece of artwork at Jupiter Artland, the sculpture park just outside Edinburgh. The Press Association report that the 15-year-old boy will be referred to The Children’s Reporter.

We love this set 0f photos on The Guardian. It shows a range of guerrilla knitting which brings some colour to various objects on London streets. We think it is a lovely idea for Edinburgh too…..anyone got a pair of knitting needles handy? Fancy knitting a scarf for the Walter Scott Monument?

The funeral takes place today at St Edburgha’s Church in Yardley of a remarkable 11 year-old boy who died last week following a long illness. He lived in Sheldon near Birmingham, nowhere near Edinburgh, but managed to reach out to people all over the world through Twitter and Facebook.

He raised more than £500,000 for Cancer Research UK, and the thing you could do today is go on to his website and buy one of the fundraising bracelets in his memory. Harry Moseley, who suffered from  an inoperable brain tumour, was voted Britain’s Kindest Kid in 2009. Aston Villa and Birmingham City football teams united in their sadness at his passing at their recent match when both teams, and the crowd, applauded the youngster for a full minute before the game started.
