National Museums Scotland are gearing up for the reopening of Chambers Street museum at the end of July, and are advertising for a new Visitor Services Manager. The advert is as follows:-

Visitor Services Manager Edinburgh   £26,135 – £29,271 per annum plus membership of Civil Service pension scheme

We are seeking a flexible and enthusiastic professional to manage and administer the Visitor Services function and staff at the National Museum of Scotland and the National War Museum of Scotland to ensure that our visitors receive a consistent and excellent year-round service.

Ideally you will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject area; however you must hold a relevant further education or management qualification.  It is crucial that you have experience of working in a management capacity within a museum or visitor attraction.  You must have high standards of customer service and have experience of managing and motivating a large team to do the same.  A background which includes monitoring change and identifying areas for improvement is vital, as is the proven ability to successfully interact with a wide range of people, including your team, cross-museum colleagues and visitors.

This role involves working weekends and public holidays on a regular basis and occasional evening work.

It is anticipated the selection event for this role will be held on or around Tuesday, 3 May 2011.
