An evening with Alexander McCall Smith, including discussion, wine and cake to launch his new No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency novel, The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party. Also performing are the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. The event is to raise funds for future musical projects. More details on The List.

Tonight from 7pm is the last ‘The Mine’ to be held at The Wee Red Bar – a night of live local music featuring Blank Canvas, Jump: Press A and Curators.  Tickets are £4.

Mary Kenny launched her About Face exhibition at the Scottish Storytelling Centre last week and you can still catch it until 26th March.

Kenny’s exhibition of drawings and paintings explores the relationship between being an artist and storyteller. The exhibition is open from 10am -6pm and has free entry. You can find more information this and other events at the Centre here.

MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, Mark Lazarowicz, has told us that he has organised a public meeting on ‘Fairtrade – taking it further’ for Edinburgh North & Leith residents as part of Fairtrade Fortnight. It will look at how we can build on the success of Fairtrade in the future. It will take place from 10am-11.30am at McDonald Road library

You might be a wee bit late to take part (although there are registrations on the day for the very fit!) but you can at least watch The Meadows Marathon which is an annual half marathon and 5km fun run, which takes place in the beautiful surroundings of The Meadows. The runners will do 8 laps of The Meadows.

Sneaky Pete’s in the Cowgate have a night of live music featuring Dan Michaelson and the Coastguards, The Heebie Jeebies, The Wooden Sky, and This Daring Move.  Doors are from 7pm, tickets are £5 and available here.

A night of entertainment at the Royal Navy Club in Broughton Road including live bingo games, music, dancing and an auction is being organised to help raise funds for the St Columba’s Hospice rebuild campaign in Edinburgh. Featuring auction items including sports kit signed by tennis player Andy Murray, a signed photograph of Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs and a family pass to Knockhill Racing, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.

The Musselburgh Hotpot is calling all Musicians, Story-tellers, Poets and Artists to mosey on down to the sea-side town and try out their fledgling tricks and seasoned talents in a friendly monthly acoustic open-floor platform. This all goes down at Stagg (Volunteer Arms) 81 North High Street, Musselburgh at 8pm on the first sunday of every month.
