Other Edinburgh attractions will pale in comparison tonight when the Nelson Monument is bathed in emerald light to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

The majestic monument on Calton Hill is joining a host of world famous sites such as the London Eye, Angel of the North and Battersea Power Station for the event, which has been organised by Tourism Ireland.

These locations will be in the company of Table Mountain in South Africa and the Burj Al Arab in Dubai as the greening rolls out across the globe.

Councillor Deidre Brock, Culture and Leisure Convener, said: “I can’t wait to see the Nelson Monument garbed in green tonight, I’m sure it will be an unforgettable sight! It’s testament to Edinburgh’s enviable cultural credentials that one of our most historic and best-loved attractions is linking up with such emblematic locations all over the world for this event.”

Visitor Information:

The Nelson Monument is open April through September: Monday 1pm – 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday 10am – 6pm;
