Report and Photos by John Preece

Stewarts-Melville travelled about a mile west to play Heriots in Round 2 of the Scottish Premier Cup on Saturday 15th January at Goldenacre.
With a lay-off of some 8 weeks, everyone (including your match photographer/reporter) was decidedly rusty. Things soon settled down, with a fairly open, end-to-end game with both teams getting close to scoring throughout the half. Heriots got closest, however with a try just before half time.
Just a couple of minutes into the second half, Heriots scored their second try, through their No 10, Mill, to take the score to 15-0, in their favour. Less than 10 minutes later , Stew-Mel opened their score sheet with well worked try from No. 7, Sangster. This was followed up, after some sustained Heriots attacking, by an intercept try from half way, again scored by Stew-Mel’s Sangster, making it a 15-14 match score.
However that was the last that Stew-Mel were to see of the scoreboard, with Heriots scoring another two tries before the referee blew up for full time, to bring the final score to Heriots 24, Stewarts-Melville 17.
