On Monday,  7th February 2011, a new challenge  starts for Edinburgh employees.

The bicycle recycling charity, The Bike Station,  along with the help of Lothian Buses and the Car Hire Club, will encourage local workers to replace commuting to work by car with more creative and sustainable options.  The organisers expect that  using bicycles, public transport, walking or sharing a car for three weeks might result in changing long-term travel behaviour.

Although the competition starts in a few weeks, numerous city organisations including some private companies have already registered. So far 2,422 people in Edinburgh are involved in reducing their carbon footprint. In some departments 100 % of employees are participating!

Apart from the environmental and health benefits, the winners will be treated to some very exciting prizes, including a balloon ride, a new bike or a pampering Spa Day.
