Thanks to Tom Allan for flagging this up on Twitter….. and maybe dear reader you will let us know what you think?
Section 76 of the Counter Terrorism Act meant that since February 2009 anyone taking photos of police could be arrested if the photos were to be used in connection with an act of terrorism. Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000 has since been suspended partly as a result of campaigns such as I’m a Photographer not a Terrorist. There is a question in the Reporter’s mind as to whether that act applies in Scotland anyway, but there are resounding alarm bells regarding freedom of speech ringing in the video shown here. In any case these were not policemen but security guards…..and we believe that Multrees Walk is a public street and not owned by the National Coal Board Pension Fund who own the office buildings at least on one side of the street…..or anyone else for that matter.
