Edinburgh is now fully in the grip of the Festival. The streets are thronged with tourists and festival goers.
A brief look at the news around Edinburgh:-
A woman has died after apparently falling from a balcony in Dundas Street in the early hours of Sunday morning. STV News has more. And The Daily Record also reports that a man was killed in a fall from a flat in Leith last night. It is believed he may have fallen from the roof.
Sainsburys in Rose Street was evacuated on Friday following a leak from a fridge in the basement.
The Pope is to be handed over from Lothian & Borders Police to their colleagues in Strathclyde at Harthill Service Station…..so that the motorway can stay open according to The Daily Record. Would telling us now perhaps mean that there will be more of a traffic jam than there might otherwise have been?
The Edinburgh Evening News has a story about Malcolm Irving who has taken photos of all the police boxes in Edinburgh for a new book…..
Meanwhile the Festivalling season goes on…..
There was a procession of pipers on The Royal Mile on Saturday heralding the strt of the 60th Tattoo. On Sunday The Festival Cavalcade took place in Holyrood Park. It used to follow a route along Princes Street but for the second year in a row has avoided the tram-ridden area. There are some photos on STV News.
pepez@flickr has some great photos from the Mela Festival this weekend.
Adam Hills, the brilliantly funny Australian comedian, has loaned Honker, a soft toy given to him by a fan for his baby daughter, to 10 year-old Lenny until Tuesday evening. The point is that Lenny (who almost stole the show tonight at The Assembly Hall (which is on The Mound – not in George Street) where he was persuaded to be a ventriloquist’s dummy for a while) will show Honker around and take photos for Hill’s own website. Edinburgh Spotlight has the story.
