And this year’s mini festival, which runs for three weeks, features indie legend Martin Stephenson and TV21 headlining in Edinburgh. Tigerfest 2010 also has gigs in Aberdeen and Dunfermline, with many established names appearing alongside local bands. This year the capital is hosting a total of seven shows and 20 acts who will be performing during the first two weeks of May.
Top of the bill is indie legend Martin Stephenson, who will be performing on May 14 at the Wee Red Bar with Alex Cornish and Riley Briggs of Aberfeldy, and fans of reformed ‘80s band TV21 can catch them in Cabaret Voltaire on May 11.
Scotland-based post punk pioneers TV21 have just released their second album – 28 years since their first LP. Critics believe ‘Forever 22’ was worth the wait.
Some of the best new talent playing at the festival include There Will Be Fireworks, Jesus H Foxx, X-Lion Tamer, The Gothenburg Address and Chris Bradley. Further afield, former Arab Strap man Malcolm Middleton is taking time out from recording and writing to play in Dunfermline, while King Creosote will also be taking to the stage in Fife.
In Aberdeen, a special one-off gig sees The Unwinding Hours perform, supported by Katerwaul. Tigerfest has run since 2004 as a regular independent festival of new music.
Bands such as Idlewild, King Creosote, Emma Pollock, Malcolm Middleton, Half Man Half Biscuit, Nouvelle Vague and Camera Obscura have performed as well as promoting early gigs by KT Tunstall and We Were Promised Jetpacks.
The mini-festival runs in conjunction with its affiliates Baby Tiger, the Carnegie Hall, Interesting Music Promotions, and online/media partner is this music?
There’s also a clutch of co-promotions with partners such as Electric Circus and the Cabaret Voltaire, plus the Fence and 17seconds labels.
