A care home in Edinburgh says it has “raised the woof” with a community dog show.
Care UK’s Lauder Lodge, on Wakefield Avenue in Portobello, opened its doors to the public and their four-legged companions for its annual Scruffs and Crufts competition.
Locals and their furry friends were invited to compete in lively agility and obedience challenges in the home’s garden.
The competition was judged by a paw-some panel of dog-loving residents, who awarded Golden Retriever, Dollar, the most obedient; Yorkshire Terrier, Penny, the funniest; Great Dane, Hero, the best in show; 13-week-old German Shepherd, Vadar, the cutest puppy; and Labrador, Rosie, the best agility time.
Two special recognition awards were also presented to pet therapy dogs, Bonnie, a West Highland Terrier, and Benji, a Golden Retriever.
Prizes included an array of dog treats provided by the show’s sponsor, Harry’s Gourmet Treats.
Resident and judge for the day, Sister Margaret, said: “Despite the weather, it was the most enjoyable day. I enjoyed seeing the different breeds of dogs and the handlers were full of fun and did a great job. The staff really made it fun; they were amazing, especially the Lifestyle team and the care team from Holyrood.”
The afternoon also featured a special visit from Guide Dogs Scotland, who showed off their skills and shared insights into the vital work of the charity.
