A consortium led by Spartans main shareholder Scott Davidson have been given EFL/IFR approval to purchase Shrewsbury Town FC.

Davidson became a director and the majority shareholder of Spartans in July 2021.

A businessman from Miami, he has significant experience across financial services, investment, corporate leadership and real estate, alongside more than four decades of involvement in education and football.

A UEFA A Licence holder, he enjoyed instant success when he became owner of Spartans leading the club to promotion from the Lowland League into the SPFL for the first time ever.

He will be joined by former US International and ex-Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel who will become a director, subject to IFR approval.

Fellow Spartans’ board members Will Dotson and Craig Graham will also become directors, subject to their approval with the IFR.

Roland Wycherley MBE remains fully committed to working with the consortium to complete the transaction as soon as possible.

The deal has yet to be finalised and is yet to receive SFA approval.

There will be an informal relationship between Spartans FC and Shrewsbury Town FC which will allow both clubs to benefit from sharing knowledge and experience.

Both clubs have excellent Community Foundations, and this deal will provide valuable opportunities for collaboration and mutual learning.

Further information will be shared as the acquisition process proceeds.
