Christian Borchgrevink was a fringe player last season, but the Norwegian is relishing being more actively involved in the Hearts first team this term, and he is making his presence felt.
The 27-year-old admitted last season was “really difficult” as the team mounted a real push for the William Hill Premiership.
Borchgrevink said even if he was left out he was still rooting for the team, but it was harder to “navigate” that situation on a personal level.
When the Oslo-born defender reported back for pre-season he found that the new manager had a “lot of different requirements” in how he wanted his full-backs to play and that suited him better as an attacking right back.
Basically, Wouter Vrancken (pictured by Nigel Duncan) wanted the Norwegian to play his own game and Borchgrevink admitted he is buzzing about the Premier Sports Cup, semi-final, clash with Hibs at Hampden.
The product of Valerenga’s youth system said: “It is amazing for us and, hopefully, we can go through. We will see.”
Borchgrevink revealed that Hearts’ players learned a lot from last season, but it was difficult to compare last season to this as the squad looks so different, but Hearts are looking strong.
They will have another opportunity to prove how strong they are when they travel to Falkirk on Tuesday (19.45) and the squad have prepared well, with ex-Bairns star, Calvin Miller, chipping in to the briefing.
