Police officers in Edinburgh continue to target shoplifters.

On 19th August 2026, officers from Leith Community Policing Team deployed in plain clothes to target shoplifters in Leith.

On their travels, they were alerted to two thieves operating in the area of McDonald Road.

After a very short foot pursuit, two males were apprehended and charged with six offences relating to retail crime.

A quantity of stolen property was recovered and returned to a nearby supermarket.

In addition, City Centre Policing Unit officers (CCPU) conducted foot patrols on South Bridge.

Following a call from CCTV about a shoplifting, two suspects were stopped.

During the search, officers found stolen property on them to the value of approximately £750.

All the goods were returned to the shop and they both got charged and set to appear at court on a later date

A spokesperson said: “Theft by shoplifting is #NotAVictimlessCrime, and we will continue to pursue those responsible and bring them to justice.

“If you have information relating to shoplifting in your area, you can let us know by calling 101, or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously.”
