Spin Cycle: The Lesbian Laundrette Play brings a queer absurdist story to the stage.
Packed with heart, wit and emotional depth, the play presents a liminal world where past and present collide in the space of a single wash cycle, allowing forgotten memories to be rinsed clean.
Against the thrum of whirring washing machines, Spin Cycle blends humour with sharply observed truths about love, class, and the strange suspended world of the laundrette.
Eyes lock. Hearts thump. But something is off. This snappy two-hander explores love, memory, class and Irish identity when, under the neon lights of a laundrette, two ex-lovers meet again for the first time. Against the thrum of whirring washing machines that cleanse our clothes, lives and actions, secrets of the past are whispered and uncovered.
Director of Spin Cycle, Bethan Rose said: “As a first time theatrical director, working with an entirely queer team is such a joy. I find there is a complicit sense of voyeurism in watching this play- you feel like a fly on the wall of The Launderette, keen to spy on Kitt and Noel. This play echoes the truth of so many relationships, revealing obstacles, love and breaking points that we are all familiar with in our own lives, and making this absurdist play resonate with anyone who has been in a complicated relationship.”
