Jason Edwards picked himself out the air fence to deny Berwick their first away points of the season on Friday as they skidded to a 47-43 defeat at Redcar Bears in th Cab Direct Championship.

After skipper Charles Wright was excluded for tape touching, Jason Edwards fell in the rerun, referee Chris Gay allowing him another chance.

At the third time of asking Edwards kept Peter Kildemand (pictured) at bay, reserve Jody Scott claiming the third place which sealed a victory which dealt another blow to Berwick’s fading hopes of reaching the play-offs.

It will go down as a win that slipped away for the visitors who answered team manager Stewart Dickson’s call for a response after Wednesday’s heavy defeat at Poole Pirates.

Bandits led the match for ten of the opening 11 races and forced Redcar into a Heat Seven tactical substitution despite managing only five race wins between them, two each for Kildemand and skipper Jye Etheridge, and one for reserve Reid Battye.

Indeed the Bears only took the lead for the first time in the penultimate heat.

Berwick are back in action on Saturday when they look to extend their unbeaten home record against Workington Comets (tapes-up 7pm) and the sides also meet in Cumbria on Sunday (3pm).

Redcar: Charles Wright 12+1, Simon Lambert 1, Jake Mulford 5+1, Jason Edwards 12, Jake Allen 6, Ryan Ingram 3, Jody Scott 8+2
