Wouter Vrancken wants Hearts to compete for the highest possible position and admitted: “It is all about results.”
The Belgian-born head coach added: “In football, there is no long-term, it’s only short term and it is only what you can do in the next game.”
Well, that next game is at Aberdeen on Saturday (kick-off 17.30) and it is a Main Event on Sky Sports for those who can’t travel (transmission opens at 17.15).
The 47-year-old is well aware that expectation among fans is high after the Gorgie combine split the Old Firm and came within minutes of winning the William Hil Premiership.
That is why he is focused on “having a good result” in the North-East and he admitted to having watched tapes of the way Stephen Robinson’s side play.
Simply, Vrancken believes an opening-day win would be a boost after the Jambos were emptied out of the Champions League by Austrian outfit, Sturm Graz, on a 6-0 aggregate.
That could be tough as Robinson wants to make Pittodrie a fortress and is keen to ensure that teams fear coming to the Granite City.
The Dons finished ninth last term and he said: “A club the size that we are, we have to be a top six football club.”
He added: “That is easier said than done.”
