A historic underground visitor attraction hidden just off the Royal Mile has launched a rare 30-year-old independently bottled grain whisky.
The Lost Close No. 3 is a North British grain whisky distilled in December 1995 and matured in a single refill hogshead. The limited release of 238 bottles has been launched by The Lost Close.
The expression has an ABV of 44.6% and was selected in partnership with Chris Cusiter, the former Scotland international rugby player who is now the CEO of independent bottler CASC Whisky Ltd.
The North British Distillery was established in 1885 as a co-operative to challenge the monopoly on grain whisky production held by the Distillers Company Limited.
Single cask expressions from the Gorgie-based distillery remain comparatively rare, as its grain whisky is typically matured for use in blends rather than being released as a single cask bottling after three decades of maturation.
Chris Cusiter said: “A whisky like this is just as much about the story as it is the flavour. You’ve got over 30 years of quiet maturation, tied to a distillery with real history in the city, it all adds to the experience.”

The independently bottled whisky is available exclusively at the Barrie’s Close venue for £135.
