The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh has announced that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has become its official patron.
This is a significant moment for the Lyceum being announced on the 60th anniversary of the theatre’s producing company, which was founded in 1965. The company has since become a cornerstone of Scotland’s cultural life, championing new writing, creating world-class productions and nurturing creative talent across generations.
As the Lyceum embarks on a year of special programming, community engagement and artistic innovation to mark the milestone anniversary, the Duke’s patronage underscores the theatre’s significance at both national and international levels.
The announcement was accompanied by a Lyceum at Home performance, to which His Royal Highness was invited as a special guest. Four monologues were performed from leading Scottish writers performed in living rooms across every part of Edinburgh, before all four pieces were brought together for a showcase performance on the Lyceum stage itself.
The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh is one of the country’s most important producing theatres, with a reputation built over six decades of artistic ambition and community connection. The Duke’s patronage is expected to shine a fresh spotlight on the theatre as it looks ahead to the next chapter of its remarkable story.
