Police have made an arrest after a man was found with serious injuries near Cables Wynd House in Leith.
He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he later died.
Emergency services were called to the incident outside about 9.40pm last night Sunday 5 July 2026.
The area was cordoned off to facilitate the investigation which has been going on all through the night.
Officers this morning confirmed that a 33-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the death and that their enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
A local resident told the Edinburgh Reporter:: “About 11 o’clock last night I heard a lot of sirens and noise. Ambulances and police were there. It was raining at the time and people on one of the buses on Henderson Street were made to stay on the bus. Not great when you are just trying to get home.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.40pm on Sunday, 5 July, 2026 police received a report of a disturbance outside Cables Wynd House, Edinburgh.
“Officers attended and a man was found with serious injuries.
“He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died a short time later.
“A 33-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
A number of buses have been diverted.
A Lothian Buses spokes person said: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Henderson Street, The Shore and Commercial Street and are instead diverted via Great junction Street and North Junction Street northbound only until further notice.”
Services 16, 17, 35, 36, N16, and N35 have all been diverted via Great Junction Street and North Junction Street in both directions until further notice.
The service 34 has been diverted via Great Junction Street and North Junction Street for the northbound route only until further notice.
Good to know a person has been arrested thanks to the police. I am beginning to feel slightly concerned at the number of incidents happening though and the thought of armed police being involved does not lessen my concern. Condolences for the person who lost their life to the family and friends.
