St David’s High School’s S3 football team are champions of the Lothian Schools FA East and Midlothian Under-15s League after completing an unbeaten season.
The team, coached by Robbie McDonald, won seven matches and drew three to secure the league title in impressive fashion, completing a remarkable turnaround from previous seasons when they won only a handful of matches across two campaigns.
Leading from the front was captain Freddie Sleight, who enjoyed a prolific season in attack. The centre-forward scored 13 goals in just five matches, including four consecutive hat-tricks during the title-winning campaign.
The squad also benefited from the experience of Sleight and defender Josh Fortune, who have now won the East and Midlothian Under-15s League title in successive seasons after helping the St David’s team from the year above lift the trophy last year.
Coach McDonald said: “The progress this group has made over the past year has been outstanding. They have worked incredibly hard, supported one another and shown great determination throughout the season.
“To go unbeaten and win the league is a fantastic achievement and one the players should be extremely proud of.”
