Voloz Collective are Fringe favourites having come to the Fringe quite recently with The Man Who Thought He Knew Too Much and The Life Sporadic of Jess Wildgoose.
But REDACTED promises to be their most conceptually ambitious production to date.
It’s set in Roswell, New Mexico – long associated with UFO folklore, following the alleged 1947 extraterrestrial crash – and now Voloz are bringing their own irreverent, revisionist approach to one of America’s most mythologised conspiracies.
In 1973, investigative journalist Marnie Makowski arrives in Roswell hoping to uncover the truth.
She finds herself pulled into a labyrinthine conspiracy, where nothing and no one is quite what it seems. As a butcher, a pilot and a priest each offer fragments of an impossible story, Marnie must evade avalanches, the authorities, and an ambiguously European villain to save the world.
Blending virtuoso physical theatre, acrobatics and live music, REDACTED hurtles forward with Voloz’s signature cinematic, inventive and unrelentingly playful style. As narratives collide and mutate, the piece taps into our growing obsession with conspiracy theories. It’s a story about how we manipulate the truth yet still hope it might offer meaning in a world that often refuses to make sense.
