Buses have been diverted and a busy street closed after issues with the sewer network were uncovered.
Responding to a visible dip in the road on Comely Bank Road, the City of Edinburgh Council found subsidence cracks and open sewer joints beneath the road surface
The street has been fully closed off between the Orchard Brae Roundabout since yesterday afternoon, with the number 24 and 29 buses diverted via Fettes Avenue and Carrington Road.
Posting on Facebook yesterday, Inverleith Councillor Max Mitchell, said: “After finding subsidence and open joints in the combined sewer network, Comely Bank Road is closed between the roundabout and Fettes Avenue.”
It is understood that the council closed off the road and flagged the issue with Scottish Water, who have now taken over the site, but who did not appear to be working there on Thursday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “Following initial investigations, we have identified damage to the local sewer network on Comely Bank Road. We have therefore arranged for a CCTV survey to be carried out to assess the condition of the sewer and help determine what repairs may be required.
“We apologise for the disruption and thank residents and road users for their patience.”
