Hennie Du Plessis suffered a hammer blow when he was beaten into second place in the BMW International Open.
The South African was leading the $3m event but fellow South African, Michael Hollick, made an eagle on the final hole to leapfrog Du Plessis and win by a stroke.
Hollick’s first tour win was unlikely when he found himself three shots adrift with two holes to play in Munich, but the 39-year-old DP World Tour rookie’s eagle and a bogey from Du Plessis at the second last hole sealed the win.
Hollick, a multiple winner on the Sunshine Tour, finished 18-under-par with a final round of 67 with Austrian player, Bernd Weisberger third on 14 under.
Four years ago Hollick concentrated on coaching and stepped back from the professional tour and he has decided to miss the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club this week before making is debut in The Open at Royal Birkdale.
Du Plessis and Weisberger are, however, in the field at the star-studded Scottish Open which starts on Thursday and finished on Sunday at the East Lothian course.
