Pitlochry Festival Theatre will bring Edinburgh Festival Fringe spirit to the Highlands this August
A new festival celebrating the world’s largest arts festival is heading to Perthshire this summer, as Pitlochry Festival Theatre establishes Edinlochry from 4–8 August.
The five-day event promises audiences a chosen selection of Edinburgh Festival Fringe highlights – comedy, music, magic and drama – set against the dramatic Highland backdrop of Scotland’s Theatre in the Hills.
Drama productions include Chatterbox, a semi-autobiographical one-woman show from Glasgow actress and writer, Lubna Kerr, exploring how childhood labels follow us into adulthood, and Lauder, celebrating the life of legendary Scottish entertainer Harry Lauder – the first UK artist to sell over a million recordings and, by 1911, the highest-paid performer in the world.
Further drama offerings include the bold and provocative Groomed; Absent, based on Betool Khedairi’s acclaimed portrait of life under restrictions in Iraq; and Kidnap, a dark yet defiantly funny one-woman show based on Samia Rida’s own experience of being taken to Saudi Arabia as a child.
Other highlights include Our Martin in the Background, a tender story set on the 1945 set of Brief Encounter; Niki King: Time, a musical exploration of loss and connection; and Homo(sapien), Conor O’Dwyer’s sharp comedic monodrama about queerness and identity.
Musical events include Christine Bovill’s acclaimed Piaf Revisited, a Kate Bush tribute show Cloudbusting, and American mentalist Jason Suran — described as one of the most in-demand performers of his kind.

“After the success of our inaugural LGBTQ + festival Out in the Hills, and the continued success of our writers’ festival Winter Words, I felt we were ready for another mini-festival at Pitlochry Festival Theatre!
“And what better way to celebrate the creativity and fun that is the Edinburgh Fringe than to bring, in the week before it all kicks off, a bunch of past, present and future Fringe performers to Pitlochry and have a week of shows that captures all the fecundity and eclectism you’d expect when combing the fringe!
