Synthpop band Magnetic Skies head to Edinburgh on 12 June, to play The Speakeasy.
The three-piece have just unveiled their new track ‘Closing In’. Taken from their acclaimed sophomore album, Fragments, the reworked new single reimagines one of the record’s most emotionally charged moments, pushing tension, atmosphere and sonic depth into bold new territory.
Frontman, Simon Kent, said: “For this remix, we’ve pushed the instrumentation and arrangement into new dimensions, letting the tension and emotion take on even greater force. There’s vulnerability in it, but also defiance. It’s about finding something inside yourself strong enough to push back against fear, manipulation and external control.”
The release comes ahead of the band’s June UK headline tour, when the London outfit take their explosive live show to five cities in Scotland and England. The run promises an emotionally charged evening for fans of dark, synth-driven sound and a chance to experience the world of Fragments and the new single fully realised.
Kent added: “The intensity of the remix is something we’ll be bringing into the forthcoming UK tour in June too – an even more immersive and emotionally charged live experience.”
Initially setting out as a duo in 2019, Magnetic Skies was born as a studio-based project created by lead vocalist and keys player Simon Kent and Jo Womar also on keys, driven by a shared love of 80s synth-driven post-punk.
They began building their sound and continually released EPs throughout 2020, using pulsing, vintage analogue synths and pumping bass to create a signature sound of evocative electronica mixed with darkwave. Eventually, the band created their long-awaited full-length offering of Empire Falling with production and mixing on the album predominantly carried out in-house by Kent, alongside additional mixing duties performed by Rob Aubrey (engineer for Sex Pistols/Big Big Train/Asia).
Magnetic Skies have so far gained support from titles like Electronic Sound, Classic Pop, MusicRadar, When The Horn Blows, Louder Than War and Blitzed Magazine. The band have opened sold-out shows for the likes of Altered Images, Heaven 17, ACTORS, B-Movie, Empathy Test and Then Jerico over the years.
